The Floral Art of Japan was produced by the architect and designer, Josiah Conder to allow the West to see what was being done in Japanese gardens. The first edition was published in 1891 and illustrated by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi and Kawanabe Kiosui, daughter of Kyosai. The second edition was published in 1899 and all 14 prints were done by Gekko. The English language text is fascinating and the prints delightful. Those familiar with Gekko's work will recognise familiar themes and landscapes in these prints
